The Giant Tamarind plantation is situated at 107 Mu 6, Tambon Wangkrajae, Amphoe Saiyok, Kanjanaburi 71150., locates of approx.65 kilometres from the provincial town. It owned by Mr.Nivej Kullasapsakdi, the retired teacher of Wat Khao Pang School.
His site is near to the Saiyok Noi Waterfall where tourists could be reached by train to Namtok Station or local bus.The landscape of Saiyok district is generally rich of forests and mountains, full of naturs's attractions and historical places such as, Lawa cave, Dawadueng cave and Parsat Muang Sing Historical Park, etc. Many resorts, raft-houses and golf courses are available for nature-loving tourists.
Anyway, the Giant Tamarind Garden is not easy access on your own without prior appointment. You shoud try to contact Mr.Nivej at 081-801-6379 for appointment. He would be more than please to pick you up at some place around his village without charge.
ประวัติเรื่องราวน่าสนใจของสวนมะขามยักษ์
"พลโทรวมศักดิ์ ไชยโกมินทร์ เป็นผู้เพาะได้จากมะขามกระดาน โดยแกะเอาเมล็ดมาเพาะใส่ถุงไว้และแจกคนอื่น ๆ บ้าง ชักชวนให้เอาไปปลูกไว้ สำหรับของท่านพลโทรวมศักดิ์มีอยู่ 6 ต้น ต้นที่ออกฝักดกที่สุดและใหญ่ที่สุดวัดเฉลี่ยแล้วมีขนาดโตกว่าต้นแม่ที่เอาเมล็ดมาปลูกเสียอีก หลังจากนั้นท่านได้เพาะกล้าแจกหน่วยราชการต่าง ๆ เป็นที่น่าเสียดายที่ส่วนมากไม่สนใจปลูกกัน ครูนิเวชก็ได้รับแจกผ่านมาเป็นลำดับที่ 4 ซึ่งก็ไม่เคยรู้มาก่อนว่าเป็นมะขามยักษ์ พอปลูกได้ 3 ปี มะขามออกฝักมาทั้งหมด 11 ฝัก มีขนาดใหญ่โตมาก ครั้งแรกที่พบนั้น ฝักมีขนาดยาว 33 ซม. กว้าง 5 ซม. ขนาดฝักที่เคยวัดได้ใหญ่ที่สุด มีความยาว 47 ซม. น้ำหนัก 4 ฝัก/กก. จึงทดลองส่งเข้าประกวด ปรากฏว่าได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศการประกวดผลไม้ยักษ์ในงานวันเกษตรแห่งชาติปี 2538"
